| dc.description.abstract | Le roman de Baldwin Another Country met en jeu le rythme de manière cruciale puisque le texte annonce sa dimension musicale par sa thématique, ses personnages et les déclarations de l’auteur. Ce mimétisme musical de l’écriture est-il duplicable par la traduction ? Cette question concerne à la fois la phonologie et la stylistique comparées, ainsi que les moyens linguistiques par lesquelles l’écriture crée une sensation rythmique (de la répétition à la paronymie, de la rime à l’allitération). Plus profondément encore dans le texte, la présence musicale du rythme est associée à des problématiques sociales et historiques. Le preachin’ apparaît ainsi comme un élément de stylistique culturelle. L’étude de la traduction publiée permet de faire ressortir ces dimensions et indique les points d’achoppement auquel fait face toute traduction tout en tentant de construire la possibilité d’une poétique du rythme dans le passage entre les langues. | en_US |
| dc.description.abstract | Baldwin’s Another Country is a deeply rhythmic novel, developing its musical theme through its characters and openly claiming its debt towards musical expression. Is it possible to translate this form of musical mimesis? The question involves taking into account comparative phonology and stylistics as well as the study of the linguistic means by which writing can create a rhythmic feel (repetitions, alliterations, rhymes, similarity of words, etc.). Rhythm and music are connected to deeper historical and social questions. For example preachin’ as a form of speech stands out as part of cultural stylistics. The study of the novel’s French translation sets off these dimensions of the original text and points to the problems that any translation is faced with. This article also attempts to outline the possibility of translating the poetics of rhythm between two languages. | en_US |
