H. A. Bouraoui was born in Sfax, Tunisia. He was raised and educated in southwestern France, and graduated from the Lycée Maréchal Lannes Lectoure de Gers. He did his undergraduate studies at the Universities of Bordeaux and Toulouse. After teaching one year in France, he came to the United States in 1958 as a Fulbright Scholar. He did his graduate work at Indiana and Cornell Universities. He has taught at Rosary College, River Forest, Illinois; Ithaca College and Cornell University, both in Ithaca, New York, and is Assistant Professor of French at Wells College, Aurora, New York.
