| dc.description.abstract | Abstract My portfolio comprises of five papers that discuss sustainable development in coastal regions on small island developing states through a planning perspective. I examined the cohesiveness of international, national, and regional planning and environmental policies and addressed how they are considerate to social, economic, and environmental conditions to reach sustainable goals. After analyzing the themes and reviewing case studies, it is evident that these policies are at an adequate standard that can be applied for a more sustainable resort development industry. However, key concerns that can disrupt sustainable practices are the limited opportunity for building capacity for thorough implementation and the lack of accountability when developers abuse their power to leverage projects that do not meet policy standards. | en_US |
