Description
This essay won the Department of English’s H.K. Girling Literature Prize in 2023. Friends and family established the prize in memory of Professor Harry K. Girling, a member of York University’s English Department from 1962 to 1984. It is awarded annually, on the recommendation of a faculty member, to a student enrolled in a 2000- or 3000-level English course who writes an outstanding essay. The recipient must also demonstrate a commitment to literature in and outside the classroom while connecting their studies to contemporary culture.
