Abstract
St. Michael's Church in the Mile End district of Montreal offers a rich
example of cultural hybridity. A close reading of the architecture and social
history of the church suggests, however, the complexity of the elements and
values of cultural mixing and the need for careful contextualization. The
article argues that, if the term hybridity is to be useful, its parameters must be
continually redefined.
