The current research examines police response toward autistic individuals. In the first paper, I examined how autistic community members perceive the challenges police may face when interacting with autistic individuals, as well as explored community-informed recommendations on how interactions between the police and autistic people can be better managed. In the second paper, across four studies, I examined decision-making in police interactions with autistic people through a lens of attribution theory, exploring how autistic-characteristic behaviour affects attributions and responses. Taken together, this research represents a novel exploration of decision-making toward autistic people in police encounters, and how these interactions can be better managed, using an evidence-based, community-informed approach.Author owns copyright, except where explicitly noted.
