Climate justice activists take many forms and employ many strategies to effect change in policy of or public opinion on greenhouse gas emissions. Through York University's Academic Innovation Fund dedicated to creating open source, publicly available course content, we've created 6 video segments interviewing grassroots climate justice activists from Toronto, a city with many climate justice organizations and efforts. Here we interview Kenza Vandenbroeck (Instagram: @moon__beam) and Kendall Mar (Instagram: @kandykaym), two grassroots organizers whose art is an extension of their activism. We'll talk about the different ways art can influence our world, how to make effective art for social change, and what it's like to be an artist in a world of environmental challenges. Here we chat with Christopher Lortie, an ecologist and professor at York University, and Malory Owen, an ecologist and climate justice activist who interviewed climate justice activists in the previous segments. The Learning Commons unites learning and academic support units on campus to bolster student success. This guide sets out to help students understand the key benefits of effective group work and introduces them to the fundamentals of a successful group work process. Here we interview organizers and community-based activists Iakoiehwatha (Instagram: @memoria.melancholia), a Kanien'kehà :ka youth who has helped start programs for her community, and Anne Keary, an organizer and mother in Toronto. We discuss the importance of sharing traditional knowledge within Indigenous communities, the power of public school systems to get organized, and how local change can make the biggest impact on global issues. But as we realized with the pandemic, that many more online resources were needed at an affordable price to facilitate learning. So that I why I created this project, to create more online methods for students to learn how to nurse various patients. In addition to working in mental health, psychology researchers and practitioners contribute to such diverse fields as education, organisational development and marketing, among others. However, despite its broad reach, there remain many misconceptions about psychology and a general lack of knowledge regarding the role psychology plays beyond the field of mental health. This workshop addresses some of these misconceptions and seeks to demystify what it means to study and work in the field of psychology. Here we interview digital educators Lindura Sappong and Toni Sappong, two sisters who run the environmental justice Instagram blog @PlasticFreeTO. We'll discuss what it's like to be a digital activist, the efficacy of social media as a tool for social change, and the pitfalls of living virtually. You can watch the live-recorded video interviews or read the transcripts recorded in Summer 2020.Item Open Access E-Mentoring Program for Graduate and Undergraduate Nursing Students: Outline of Program Modules and Pre and Post Survey Templates(2023) Robbio, Ruth; Bertram, Mavoy; Endersby, Lisa; McCague, Hugh; Brennagh, Helen; Nugent, Doina; Quail, StephanieMany new graduate nurses face difficulties in their transition to professional practice. To help mitigate these difficulties, socialization through social supports and mentoring are critical to facilitate entry to practice (Robbio, 2018) and may be realized through opportunities for empathetic, authentic, and relational mentoring to address ongoing issues, such as isolation and a lack of social connectivity and mental wellbeing, faced by nursing students (Cengiz et al., 2021). Traditional in-person mentoring may encounter barriers, such as unsupportive work environments, lack of mentor access, heavy workloads and location and distance constraints. To address these limitations, an e-mentoring program for nursing students by nursing students was developed as a viable transitional strategy. This document provides individuals with access to the following openly licensed components from York University’s E-Mentoring Program: Partnering Graduate Nursing Students and Undergraduate Nursing Students: A list of the modules in the fully online program; Access to the survey instruments that were developed and administered to e-mentees and e-mentors prior to the program and at the completion of the program.
