Named for Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), who visited Toronto for the first time in 1918, the Prince Edward Viaduct was initially very controversial. To Toronto residents at the time, access to the sparsely populated Danforth area didn’t justify the bridge’s $2,500,000 price tag.
